As described on the MP3 page, audio file compression algorithms are used to reduce the size of audio files when they are stored on disk. Ogg Vorbis is the new “rising star” of audio file compression. You may not have heard of it yet, but you probably will soon. This is because it has all the advantages of MP3, in addition to which it is a completely open, patent-free standard which is available widely through the Internet as “open source”. Click here to visit the Ogg Vorbis website for more information.
Our experience is that Ogg Vorbis encoded audio files are of extremely high quality, and are generally around the same size as MP3 files of the same audio.
Ultimate Sound Recorder supports the Ogg Vorbis format by use of DLL files that are written by the Xiph.org Foundation. It is not necessary to download these files separately, since they are included with the Ultimate Sound Recorder setup program.
